Heroes save toddler from drowning at Holmen pool (2008/07/22)
Garret Nesler drove for about 12 hours over 731 miles to save a child. He thought he was just taking a family vacation from Chesapeake, Ohio, to visit his sick brother and his boyhood home in Holmen. Nevertheless, on Wednesday, July 9, he learned he was in Holmen for an even greater purpose — to help save a 3-year-old boy from drowning.

Railroad engineers had a scare last week when they thought they ran over a child playing on a train parked on the tracks near the Onalaska spillway. The engineer called for emergency help the evening of June 9, saying kids were riding on the train and he thought one had jumped off but had gotten caught under the train before it was stopped. She knew her Brewers, Bucks and Packers. She even surprised herself by knowing Flavor Flav. But a bit of history that involved President John Tyler and Texas stumped Suchita Shah, and the UW-Madison senior saw her run on “Jeopardy!” end in a semifinal that aired May 14.
