The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America will open its Global Mission Event today with a global sing-along session that will feature music from countries and churches worldwide.

The global sing-along session from 6:15 to 7 p.m. on the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse campus will highlight how music can help build communities and extend hospitality, as it is used in a number of cultures.

The Sunday morning worship service at last year's Global Mission Event at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.

The opening celebration from 7 to 9 p.m. will include speaker Katrina Browne, producer/director of the film "Traces of the Trade," which details her being the descendent of what was the largest slave-trading family in U.S. history.

The Global Mission Event will continue through Sunday at UW-L. Anyone can sign up and walk-ins are welcome. Events today and Sunday are free. To see a schedule or for more information about event activities, go online to www.elca.org/gme or contact ELCA Global Mission at 1-800-638-3522, ext. 2642.
