A 3-year-old boy was being treated at a local hospital after nearly drowning in the Holmen Aquatic Center pool Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

The child, whose name was not released, was not breathing when others pulled him from the pool about 2 p.m., said Doug Schober, chief of the Holmen Area Fire Department.

Several people at the pool performed CPR on the boy until First Responders arrived and revived the child, Schober said.

The boy was taken to Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, but his condition was not available.

“Hopefully he’ll be back 100 percent and have no lasting effects from this,” Schober said.

He knew few other details on what happened, including how the boy ended up in water over his head. The child was accompanied by an adult at the pool, but Schober did not know where the adult was when the incident occurred.

The fire chief also was not sure whether there would be an investigation

Child Care Provider Not Watching wrote on Jul 14, 2008 10:10 PM:

" " First I have to say that I am glad to the boy is doing OK. Second as a child care provider this is totally unacceptable. This child care provider should lose her license. I would first look at how many children were with her because your staff-child ratio goes way down, different then what it is at home. Second given the child was three the child care provider should of been holding the child's hand at all the time and be in the shallow end, less than 2 ft deep. I take my children to the pool and NEVER have an issue because I take special precautions. As a parent as well this lady would not be doing child care anymore." "

dont be so quick to place blame wrote on Jul 14, 2008 9:37 AM:

" Don't blame the parent till you know the whole story. You don't know if the mom or dad was there with another child as well and the 2 ran off in different directions. Maybe the child was there with a baby sitter or a grandparent. I see you're quick to question the parent but not the lifeguard. How come he or she did not save the child? How come the life guard was not the performing the CPR? Isn't that was the lifeguard is paid to do? It seems based on the logic of you're comments the lifeguard should be fired as well. "

Where were the parents wrote on Jul 11, 2008 2:53 PM:

" I have to agree "a mom." It is not the pools job to watch your children. I see a ton of kids at the pool without an adult. They drop off the kids and leave!!!! I sure hope the parents are held accountable for their neglect to supervise their child. I hope social services were called in. What else are they not doing to ensure the safety of their child. "

" Where were the parents or guardians of this little boy? I can't imagine taking my 2 and 4 year olds to the pool and not having them with in arms reach. I hope this little boy is going to be ok. "
