The Onalaska Community Life and Holmen Courier publish news about student achievements from elementary to college. Here is the latest good news about Onalaska and Holmen area students: Joan Kennedy and Abigail Walls, both of Onalaska and both dental hygiene students at Western Technical College, have been awarded scholarships from the Wisconsin Dental Association Foundation. The following area students were named to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus 2008 spring semester dean’s list: Katrina Meyer of Holmen was named to the winter and May 2008 deans list at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. The following area students were named to the chancellor’s list at the University of Wisconsin-Stout for the spring 2008 semester: Kyle Thompson, a native of Onalaska, won the Toy Award from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Chemistry Department. The $2,500 award recognizes students who excelled academically in the department. The University of Wisconsin-Madison has named the following area students to the dean’s list for the spring semester of the 2007-08 academic year: The following area students were named to the spring semester 2008 dean’s list at Viterbo University in La Crosse: Matthew Cantlon of Holmen graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with a BS in managerial accounting and business administration. Jacob Grotelueschen of Holmen graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with a BFA in art-graphic design. The President’s Education Award has given to the following Holmen Middle School students who have shown a strong commitment to academic excellence and have built a solid foundation for a lifetime of accomplishment as evidenced by achieving high honor roll status all three years at HMS as well as scoring advanced in reading or math on the WKCE tests: Jennah Bahr, Nicholas Behringer, James Bennett, Elizabeth Bergum, Pamela Betthauser, Cole Bjornstad, Kelsey Bock, Joseph Branhagen, Ellen Clark, Olivia Cooper, Louis Corcoran, Austin Dahl, Benjamin Davis, Derek Dinsmoor, Marina Dvorak, Alexandra Garbers, Christina Griffin, Haley Hesselberg, Alexis Hummel, Corona Kenowski, Grace Kube, Bennett Laxton, Anna Linzmeyer, Jordan Malone, Clair Mitzelfeldt, Erik Ohlrogge, Kelley Okoren, Dylan Paulson, Isaac Prichett, Lexi Renk, Eryn Ruoff, Dalton Terpstra, David Trautmann, Ann Vang, Lynsey Yehle Christopher Newton of Holmen earned a doctor of philosophy degree from Ball State in Muncie, Ind.
