Citywide garage sale a chance to unload extras

People who want to turn extra clothes, pots and pans, lamps, books, toys and other sources of clutter into cash should mark this date: July 19.

That’s the date of the third annual Onalaska citywide garage sale, in which hundreds of residents are expected to participate. Those who purchase ads in River Valley Newspaper Group newspapers (including the Onalaska Community Life and the La Crosse Tribune) will have their sale listed on a map distributed for the event. The deadline for getting on the map is 2:30 p.m. Monday, July 14.

Not only is the citywide garage sale a great moneymaker for participants, the event benefits local commercial and retail outlets. “This has been a great event for Onalaska,” said tourism director Jean Lunde. “Traffic does increase during this event and increases the business at local convenience stores as well as dining establishments.”

To get on the map, fill out the La Crosse Tribune online classified ad form at ads@lacrossetribune.com or go to the Onalaska Center for Tourism and Commerce Web site at www.discoveronalaska.com and click on the garage sale button which links to the online classified form.

The Center for Tourism and Commerce will print approximately 1,000 maps that will be available at the offices at 1101 Main Street or at any Onalaska Kwik Trip store.

The deadline for ads to run in all three newspapers, the La Crosse Foxxy and the Web sites is 2:30 p.m. July 11.

People wishing to place ads can call 785-7355; e-mail ads@lacrossetribune.com; stop by the River Valley Newspaper Group office at 103 S. Leonard St., West Salem; or stop by the La Crosse Tribune office at 401 N. Third St., La Crosse.
