LIBRARY NOTES: Travel book offers many insider tips
Peter Greenberg, best-selling author and “Today Show” travel editor, has traveled more than 18 million miles in his lifetime. Not only has he traveled by plane, train, and car, but also by motorcycle in Jordan, donkeys in the Grand Canyon, bicycles in China, and elephants in Botswana.
In his new book, “The Complete Travel Detective Bible,” he shares inside secrets to outplay the travel industry at its own game. You are able to find the best fares, accommodations, and services at the lowest possible prices.
The travel industry is starting to notice the growing number of women travelers, whether for business or pleasure. The author highlights several women’s travel clubs. They include Sierra Wilderness, Gutsy Women Travel (includes spa trips and cruises) and Canyon Calling Adventure for Women.
Today, more than 200,000 students study abroad. Students and parents will find advice in the chapter on student travel. Look beyond the brochures and PowerPoint presentations that claim the program is nothing but fun, growth and personal satisfaction. Are the study-abroad classes contributing to the student’s major? Is there an orientation to prepare students for cultural changes? Is there a point person on campus or nearby who can deal with personal issues?
