When Onalaska and Holmen area students do well, we want to hear about it. The Onalaska Community Life and Holmen Courier publish news about student achievements from elementary to college. Here is the latest good news about Onalaska and Holmen area students:

Jason Smith has been selected as a college intern at the Pentagon’s Secretary of Defense Office this summer in Washington, D.C. Jason is a member of the UW-La Crosse Golden Key College Honors Society and will graduate from the College of Business in December 2008. He is a 2004 graduate of Onalaska High School.

Deandra Christianson, Ashley Jakowski and Sarah Tyler, all of Onalaska, and Lauren Komro of Holmen have been inducted into the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire chapter of the national Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma, which are national honor societies that recognize and encourage academic excellence among first-year students.

Lopas and Cicenas Family Scholarships were awarded to UW-Eau Claire sophomore Briana Romundstad of Onalaska.

Chris Fuchsteiner of Onalaska graduated from the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, with a master’s degree in philosophy.

Aaron Orebaugh, son of Allan and Melinda Orebaugh, Holmen, graduated from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural engineering. Aaron is employed by Maurer-Stutz, an engineering firm in Peoria, Ill.

Caleb Orebaugh, son of Allan and Melinda Orebaugh, Holmen, graduated from Madison Area Technical College, Madison, with an associate degree in agricultural equipment technology. Caleb is a John Deere repair technician with Horizon Equipment, West Salem.

Benjamin Miller, a Holmen High School graduate now studying at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, was awarded the Ruth and Carl Miller Academic Merit Award.
